What was involved?

What was involved in TALIS 2009?

TALIS involved the administration of questionnaires to teachers and principals in a representative sample of schools in participating countries. The data from these questionnaires were analysed and reported on at both international and national levels.

Two separate questionnaires were used: one for subject teachers and one for principals. These questionnaires were developed by the OECD with the assistance of an international expert group and were discussed throughout the development with teacher representative bodies, including the Trade Union Advisory Council (TUAC) at the OECD. In Ireland, the questionnaires were discussed by the National Advisory Group.

Each questionnaire took about 45 minutes to complete. In Ireland, questionnaires were available in English and Irish, in both print and online formats.

Responses to questionnaires were entirely confidential.
