The TGD-R is the leading set of standardised tests of achievement ‎in Irish. It has been developed specifically for group administration in English-medium primary schools where Irish is taught as a subject. The TGD-R contains the following benefits and features:

  • Based on the Irish ‎Primary School Curriculum (1999)
  • Standardised on a nationally representative sample of almost 10,000 pupils in English-medium schools in May 2010
  • There are three Levels, each with parallel forms.  The different Levels are suitable for pupils in Second to Sixth class.
  • Level 3 of the test can be used for incoming 1st year students in Post Primary schools.

Reporting

The TGD-R provides scale scores, percentile ranks and sTen scores for the overall test. It also provides two subscales:

  1. Reading: Vocabulary (Léamh-Foclóir) & Comprehension (Léamh-Tuiscint)
  2. Listening test (Éisteacht)

Administration

Total testing time, including instructions, ranges from 90 minutes for Level 1 to 2 hours for Level 3.
