Irish Journal of Education (IJE)
The IJE is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by the Educational Research Centre (ERC). It is available online at www.erc.ie/ije.
Articles are published on a rolling basis upon acceptance.
Aims and scope
The IJE welcomes submissions on any of the following:
- Quantitative analyses of large-scale international and/or national assessment data
- Test development and test standardisation studies
- Evaluations of national educational programmes, initiatives, or policies
- Quantitative, qualitative or mixed-method analyses of smaller-scale assessment or evaluation studies, including case studies
- Reviews of educational research, policy, or theoretical perspectives
Articles with a particular relevance to education in Ireland are especially welcome.
Full-length articles
between 3,500 words and 6,500 words (including references and appendices), accompanied by an abstract of up to 200 words. These typically report analyses of one or more research questions using one or more data sources.
Short articles
between 1,500 and 2,500 words (including references and appendices), accompanied by an abstract of up to 200 words. These are typically evidence-based commentaries or positions on educational research, policy, or practice.
Instructions for authors
Blind review: Please ensure that submissions do not contain identifying author information in the main text. Author, institution, and funding details (if any) should be submitted in a separate document titled “Title page”.
Style: Main text, tables, figures, and references must follow the APA style.
Submission format: Articles must be submitted in Microsoft Word or other compatible formats to ije@erc.ie. For security reasons, links to cloud-based files cannot be accepted.
Templates: Please use the provided Word templates: one for the title page (with identifying information) and another for the manuscript (without identifying information).
Articles that do not meet these guidelines and requirements cannot be considered for publication.
