Drumcondra Irish Test (1970s)

The Drumcondra Irish Test (Triail Ghaeilge Dhroimchonnrach) is a nationally normed test that was developed in the late 1970s and is available in one form for each level. National norms for the beginning, middle and end of the school year are available.

Level II is designed for pupils in Third and Fourth classes. This test consists of four subtests: Vocabulary, Spelling, Usage, and Reading Comprehension. The test takes approximately 1 hour to administer. Pupils mark their answers on their test booklets. Answers can be easily scored by the teacher using scoring stencils.

Level III is designed for pupils in Fifth and Sixth classes and consists of four subtests: Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Usage, and Spelling. The test takes approximately 1¬Ω hours to administer. Pupils mark their answers on a hand-scorable answer sheet, which can be scored using scoring stencils.

Level IV is designed for pupils in First Year post-primary classes. This test consists of four subtests: Vocabulary, Comprehension, Usage, and Spelling. The test takes approximately 1¬Ω hours to administer. Pupils mark their answers on a hand-scorable answer sheet, which can be scored using scoring stencils.

The test booklets for Levels III and IV are reusable.
