The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is an international assessment of the skills and knowledge of 15-year-olds. Rather than assessing school-based curricula, PISA assesses students’ performance on ‘real-life’ tasks that are considered relevant for effective participation in adult society and for life-long learning.

If you are one of the students who has been asked to take part in PISA, click here to see what this involves.

PISA is a project of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In Ireland, the project is managed by the Educational Research Centre in collaboration with the Department of Education and Science. This website introduces PISA and describes how it is implemented both internationally and in Ireland. Links to some of the national and international bodies involved in PISA are also provided.

The PISA 2006 results are now available. Click here to download the summary report for Ireland or here to order the main report for Ireland. Details of the symposium can be accessed by clicking here.

A Teacher's Guide to PISA Science has just been published. Click here to download the report or here to order.

Other recent Irish PISA publications - PISA mathematics: A teacher’s guide and Implementing the Revised Junior Certificate Science Syllabus: What teachers said - can be downloaded by clicking here

The fourth cycle of PISA - PISA 2009 - is now underway. Click here for more details.

The PISA seminar, New Insights on Student Outcomes in the Programme for International Student Assessment, which was due to take place on March 18th has been postponed until a later date. Details of the new date for this seminar will be posted here shortly.
