Conference and Workshop Event

The Educational Research Centre (Dublin, Ireland) and Educational Testing Service (Princeton, NJ, USA) are collaborating to support the growing interest in log-file and process data from international large-scale assessments. A conference and workshop will take place on the 16th and 17th May, 2019 at the Davenport Hotel in Dublin, Ireland.
Conference Event – 16th and 17th May (1.5 days)
This international conference event aims to:
- Showcase recent and current work in this area that takes a variety of methodological and theoretical approaches
- Promote a shared understanding of log-file and process data in PISA and other large-scale assessments
- Consider ethical issues relating to this kind of data
- Establish priorities to guide future directions for research using log-file data.
The conference is expected to be of particular relevance to educational researchers with an interest in the potential offered by log-file data, but would also be of interest to educators and policy-makers, given the potential breadth of application that log-file data offers.
The conference takes place over 1.5 days on the 16th and 17th of May, with space for 100 attendees. The conference will start at 9am on Thursday 16th and close at 1pm on Friday 17th May.
The half-day workshop will run from 2-6pm on 17th of May, with space for 30 participants.
There will be a drinks reception for all conference attendees, directly after the final session on Day 1. More information on the conference and workshop (draft programme, speakers, etc.) will shortly be available.

Workshop Event – 17th May (afternoon only)
Immediately following the conference, a half-day workshop combining demo and hands-on activities is offered. The workshop uses a synthetic database constructed by ETS using Field Trial data from PISA 2015, and guides participants through the initial extraction process and data structure, then explores some key manipulations that are possible, and research questions that may be interrogated using the data.
This workshop is limited to 30 participants, with a registration process separate to the conference-only event. To attend both the conference and the workshop, a fee of €400 will apply.

Information for workshop participants
The workshop is aimed at educational researchers with some experience in data analysis using SPSS/STATA/SAS, with an interest in student process. The workshop will have a blend of demonstration and hands-on tasks that are aimed at researchers beginning to work with log-file and process data in large-scale assessments.
Workshop participants will require a general understanding of SPSS syntax or other programming languages. Extensive data science or programming experience is not essential, but some knowledge and understanding of data analytics and coding will be beneficial. Participants will also need to be generally familiar with the content and design of the PISA datasets.
